Gammon-itcally Incorrect, III
David Pinto has posted an email from a reader regarding my "fisking" of Sir Peter Gammons. The person contends that "it's not his fault that his material is full of bad grammar, typos and twisted syntax. For all that, the blame lies squarely with ESPN, which either can't afford an editor or can't afford an editor with half a brain."
I Just had a couple of comments regarding that email that I post below:
I just read the letter from your reader defending Gammons, and I have one comment. I have read that Gammons is such a prima donna (my take) that he refuses to have his prose poured over by an editor. I remember posting a citation to an online article to that effect sometime this fall (I have to find it).If he were William Faulkner with run-on sentences that were intentionally evocative, that would be fine. But given that he is not, let's say, the most adept pen-man on the planet, he should avail himself of all the resources the mighty ESPN.com site has at its disposal.
I'm just a one-man blogger, but I can use spell check (when I remember).
For more on fisking, go here. It has nothing to do with Carlton as it turns out.
