The Nationals prepare to run their win streak to eleven games tonight versus the Burbank Angels of Anaheim. Washington has had some close calls in the streak, winning five games by one run and only two by five or more runs, resulting in six saves during the period for Chad Cordero.
The Nats were 24-25 on May 28 but one their next three, lost one (june 1) and now have won ten straight. The Phils have been almost as hot, winning twelve of thirteen on their just completed homestand and 15 of their last 17.
On May 28, The NL East looked like this:
Team | W | L | PCT | GB |
Florida | 26 | 20 | .565 | - |
Atlanta | 27 | 21 | .563 | - |
NY Mets | 26 | 24 | .520 | 2 |
Washington | 24 | 25 | .490 | 3.5 |
Philadelphia | 24 | 26 | .480 | 4 |
Now, they look like this:
Team | W | L | PCT | GB | Since 5/28 |
Washington | 37 | 26 | .587 | - | 13-1 |
Philadelphia | 36 | 28 | .563 | 1.5 | 12-2 |
Florida | 31 | 29 | .517 | 4.5 | 5-9 |
Atlanta | 32 | 30 | .516 | 4.5 | 5-9 |
NY Mets | 32 | 31 | .508 | 5 | 6-7 |
Wacky. Anyway, this is the first time in over sixty years that a DC team has won ten games straight. The last was the old Senators in September 1943. They finished 84-69, with a .549 winning percentage, in 2nd place, 13.5 games behind the Yankees that year. The expansion Senators never won more than nine games out of any ten they played.
Here are all the previous DC ten-game winning streaks:

5/30/1912 | 6/9/1912 | 39-48 | 67 | 23 |
This is the 24th time in "modern" Washington baseball history. Only 13 of the previous 23 teams won their next game.
So what's the longest win streak in Washington baseball history? The 1912 Senators won 17 straight from May 30 to June 18, outscoring their opponents 112-49. That team finished 91-61, .599, in second place 14 games behind the Red Sox.
